A day to remember

Thursday 6th June 2024 marked D-DAY 80 year anniversary and National Fish & Chip Day.

Together we remembered the soldiers who courageously stormed the beaches of Normandy in 1944, fighting for our freedom.

Fish & Chips played a vital role during the war, being one of the only comfort dishes left unrationed. This was made possible by brave farmers and fishermen who chose to continue working despite the risks. With this in mind, National Fish & Chip Day was celebrated one day early to coincide with this years momentous occasion.

With the highest number of votes, Newark Dementia Carers Group received our D-DAY giveaway of 40x Portions of Fish & Chips on the day. A wonderful local charity, organising weekly activities for those living with dementia and offering their support to carers and loved ones.

Our younger generation got involved and helped us decorate the shop for the occasion, thank you to everyone who entered the display looked fantastic! Mia age 10 was proud to win the colouring competition, receiving Fish & Chips for her family.

In the evening we welcomed our lovely vintage vocalist who took us back to the 1940’s with wartime music for the neighbourhood and visitors to enjoy.
